28 February 2013, 12:00

This week, on the eve of the traditional spring sales, the Auction House ‘Mākslas Vēstniecība’ is arranging a large exhibition of fine and applied arts at the Rietumu Bank Gallery in Riga.

The exposition has already generated considerable interest on the part of specialists, collectors, art lovers and connoisseurs – over the first three days it has been visited by more than 1200 persons. It is also remarkable that this time there is an interest shown in the auction not only in Latvia, but also from abroad.

The auction will present works of the museum level, among which there will be pieces of art by Karlis Miesnieks, Janis Liepinsh and Indulis Zarinsh. Latvian classics, such as Liberts, Valters, Kalninsh, Otto and Uga Skulme, Pinnis, Tidemanis and the leading masters of the second half of the 20 th century – Paulyuks, Silinsh, Tabaka, are widely presented as well. The old Russian school is represented by Karl Rozen and the French one – by the Barbizonian Pierre Balleux.

Art connoisseurs will also have an opportunity to acquire unique works made of gold and gemstones by jewellers of the Russian Empire and European countries.

The Spring auctions, arranged for the third year in succession by the Mākslas Vēstniecība House with the support of Rietumu Bank, have traditionally become the central event of the artistic market of Latvia and enjoy invariable success. The turnover of last year’s auction exceeded EUR 250 000.
