Rietumu Bank has become an Official Partner of the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship for the territory of Latvia.
This biggest annual winter sports event worldwide will take place from 21 May to 6 June 2021 in the Latvian capital Riga.
16 national teams will take part in the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship – from Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Canada, the USA, Russia, Belarus, Slovakia, Finland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Kazakhstan and, of course the host, Latvia.
The venues for the Games will be Arena Riga, the largest permanent ice arena in the Baltics, and the Olympic Sports Centre, which will be specially converted into an ice arena for this purpose.
The World Championship will be held under the patronage of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and the organisation of the 2021 IIHF WM will be carried out by its Latvian Organising Committee, with which Rietumu signed an official partnership agreement in April for the territory of Latvia.
According to Arkady Suharenko, Deputy Chairman of the Rietumu Bank Council, “We are glad that such a significant event for world sports as the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is being held here in Latvia for the second time. Sport – like culture and business – unites countries and people, helps to understand that no matter where we live and what beliefs we adhere to, we can always work together, cooperate, communicate and understand each other. I am sure that Latvia, as a hospitable host country of this World Championship, will ensure the competition is held at the highest level. I sincerely wish success to all the teams participating in the World Championship and of course the Latvian national team, with which Rietumu Bank has a long-term partnership and friendship”.
For the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Rietumu will also supportthe work of the volunteers during the games. Volunteers traditionally help spectators, athletes, judges and all participants of the championship, participate in the preparation of arenas, the work of information centres, act as assistants, translators, guides, meet and see off guests.
Volunteers will be provided with food and accommodation on the days of the upcoming 2021 IIHF WM, and will also receive a special outfit for their work.
“Working as a volunteer is an excellent opportunity to be at the epicentre of a major and interesting global event and at the same time gain practical experience, which is important for those who plan, in one way or another, to connect their life with sports. For us, the organisers, volunteers are important assistants in such a complex and multifaceted matter as holding a hockey championship, especially in such a difficult time. And we are grateful to Rietumu for the support of our volunteer programme,” said the head of the Local Organising Committee Edgars Buncis.
“Nākotnes Atbalsta fonds” (Future Supporting Fund) is starting cooperation with the largest Latvian animal shelter, Ulubele, which has been taking care of animal protection and welfare for more than 15 years.
