As a result, a decision was taken about allocating money from the Fund for the restoration of a number of significant monuments of religious culture in different regions of Latvia.
Rietumu Bank and its Charity Fund have been providing support to all the biggest religious confessions of Latvia for over a decade. The competition “Sacral Heritage of Latvia” has been held for the third year in succession with the goal of revealing and retaining unique monuments of architecture and art, renovating interiors of temples and prayer halls, saving and restoring rare artefacts.
According to the Chairperson of the Board of the Rietumu Charity Fund Inga Sina, “Historically different confessions co-exist in Latvia; under their supervision, they have a lot of architectural and historical assets, temples and prayer halls with their original interiors, icons and other works of sacred art. This heritage is our common pride, the true adornment of big and small towns and villages of our country. Many of these buildings are now in need of serious repair or restoration, and I am glad that we can assist in retaining them for future generations.”
This year, according to the competition results, the Rietumu Charity Fund will provide financing for nine projects in different regions of Latvia:
1. Catholic Church in Alsunga – organ restoration.
2. Evangelical Lutheran Church in Augstkalns (Mezmuiza, Tervete Region) – facade restoration.
