Rietumu Bank’s Charity Fund’s and the newspaper’s “Diena” joint project “Looking for the Best Nurse” that had lasted for several months since the beginning of the year was completed on 1 July.
Rietumu Bank’s deputy chairman of the Council Arkady Suharenko and the Charity Fund’s chairman of the Board Inga Shina congratulated and awarded 26 best children nurses with after-tax LVL 500 cash prizes. After that the nurses were invited to a welcome reception hosted by the president of Latvia Valdis Zatlers and his spouse Lilita Zatlere at Riga Castle.
During the project, former and present patients of children units of 26 regional hospitals, their parents and friends could vote for their nurses. A participation application was available online at
www.diena.lv/sirdsmasina or
www.rblf.lv, as well as in the hospitals.
The core aim of the project was to emphasize the ultimate importance of the nurse’s profession, to attract social attention and to remind about its implicit prestige – recuperation from many illnesses depends on a nurse, especially when patients are children.
The first stage of the project “Looking for the Best Nurse” was completed in spring 2008, when best nurses of Children Clinical University Hospital in Riga were awarded.
