The tournament was arranged with the support of Rietumu Bank.

70 golfers from different countries took part in the tournament. Apart from the Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Latvia and Lithuania Baurzhan Mukhamejanov, Kazakh and Latvian diplomats and entrepreneurs, competitors who were showing their golf skills were also representatives of Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Russia, Germany, South Korea, the USA and other countries. After the tournament, an ambassadorial reception was held in honour of the national holiday of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

When opening the event and greeting the guests, the Ambassador emphasised the significance of strengthening political and economic relations between countries, “The foreign policy of Kazakhstan is a multi-directional one. We aim to develop friendly relations with all countries, one of which is your wonderful Latvia. A constructive political dialogue and mutually beneficial trade and economic relations have been established between our countries.”

According to the results of the competition, the best players received cups and prizes, and the winner of the tournament received its main award – the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Cup. The special Cup made by Kazakh masters as a reduced-scale copy of the Bayterek monument was handed over for storage to Renat Lokomet, Board Member of Rietumu Bank.

In turn, as a memento of this event, Mr Lokomet presented an etching to the embassy depicting one of the most popular places of interest of Riga – St. Peter’s Church, created by Latvian graphic artist Karlis Cirulis.

The venue of the tournament was one of the first and currently the most modern golf clubs in Latvia – Ozo Golf Club. The club was founded by the recognised Latvian hockey player Sandis Ozolins in 2002.
