“Themes and variations” at the Rietumu Bank Gallery

3 July 2018, 12:20

An exhibition of paintings “Themes and Variations” by a bright contemporary Russian artist Alla Davydova, has opened at the Rietumu Bank Gallery.

Alla Davydova lives and works in St. Petersburg; she came to Riga specifically to take part in this exhibition. The most recent works of the artist, created by her over the past two years, are exhibited here.

Alla Davydova has admitted to guests that she is very fond of our country and its capital - Riga, and always visits the city with pleasure. The current exhibition is already the second display of her works here, at the Rietumu Bank Gallery.

In her works, Alla Davydova creates variations on miscellaneous themes that are the source of her creative inspiration.

“A certain theme – a kind of “starting point” of inspiration – becomes the conceptual core of a variation, which itself is intrinsically valuable and can be deployed in the interpretive field of any scale. This is evidenced by the works of Alla Davydova, created over the past two years. They represent a complete cycle, where variability is the unifying principle,” says Valery Panasyuk, a Professor in History of Art, about the artist's works.

Alla Davydova is an Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation. She works in genres of painting, graphic arts, and also creates tapestries. Alla Davydova was educated at the Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial School named after V. I. Mukhina. During her creative career, she has taken part in more than 100 exhibitions in various countries across the world. Her works can be seen in Russia, Germany, the UK, the US, Finland, and now – here in Latvia.

The exhibition “Themes and variations” in the Rietumu Bank Gallery will last for two more weeks - until 13 July. Opening hours: Monday-Friday from 9 to 18. As always, admission is free.
