Presentation of the basketball baskets took place as part of the #vefgrozs competition for schoolchildren. Participants in the competition had the opportunity to help their school get new backboards by posting creative photos or videos on Instagram or Facebook, which were then assessed by a jury made up of representatives from VEF and Rietumu Bank Charity Fund. The best ones won their schools new outdoor basketball baskets. At each school singled out during the #vefgrozs competition, a special event featuring VEF Rīga players was organized to unveil the new backboards.
In 2018, new basketball baskets went to Jaunmārupe Primary School, Mārupe High School, Riga Rīnūži High School, Babīte High School, Vecpiebalga High School and Suntaži High School. Last year, another six schools were presented basketball baskets– Riga Āgenskalns State Gymnasium, Riga High School No. 41, Krāslava Primary School, Pļaviņi Region Gymnasium, Saldus Primary School and Riga Special Boarding School No. 1.
“This project is very important to us, Rietumu Bank Charity Fund, as children’s wellbeing and health are among the main priorities of the fund. In cooperation with VEF, we have provided support for 12 schools in two years, contributing to the development of school infrastructure and making classes, and the breaks between classes, even better for schoolchildren. As we all know, physical activity is very important for children’s health and wellbeing,” says Inga Shina, Chairwoman of Rietumu Bank Charity Fund’s board.
A photo exhibition by Ebbie Vebri Adrian, a renowned Indonesian travel photographer was unveiled at Rietumu Gallery, Riga. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Stockholm.
