Art exhibition in Rietumu

20 October 2010, 12:00
Today in Rietumu Capital Centre’s halls, the Head Office of Rietumu Bank, an exhibition of the outstanding Latvian painter Dace Liela will be opened. The exhibition is hosted by Daugava Gallery in collaboration with Rietumu.

Dace Liela is one of the most prominent modern painters in Latvia. Since 1986 she participated in exhibitions in Latvia, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Denmark, USA, Portugal, Canada, France, Spain, and Netherlands. Dace’s artworks are displayed in Moscow – Tretyakov Gallery, in the USA – museum Jane Voorhes Zimmerli, in Poland – Poznan Arts Museum, in Riga – Arts Museum Arsenal, as well as in the Latvian Artists Association’s collection.

Sea theme is the most salient in Dace’s artworks. “All seas and oceans have some kind of magical allure, probably because you can’t see the opposite shore. Even if people don’t swim, go fishing, take boat rides or cruises, they will sit for hours by the sea shore and peer into the distance deep in thought, or they can stroll by the sea for miles on end. Is the edge of the sea some kind of border place? I like to think this visual vastness makes people happy” says Dace Liela.

Dace’s exhibition is the second project within Rietumu’s art programme commenced this summer with Vladimir Lemport’s artworks.

Rietumu has always been supporting the leading Latvian museums and large-scale art projects, it is also a famous collector of paintings and sculptures. Rietumu plans to continue developing art banking further in collaboration with museums and prominent galleries, as well as to exhibit masterpieces from its private collection. Expositions will take place in the exhibition hall on the first floor of Rietumu Capital Centre.

The exhibition of Dace Liela opens at 4 pm Latvian time.
