Master classes of Vladislav Tretiak were held in the capital of Latvia for the fifth time, traditionally with the support of Rietumu Bank.

Latvia, having strong hockey traditions, is currently the only country where Vladislav Tretiak holds master classes for young students from all over the world every summer.

As Mr Tretiak noted at a press conference dedicated to this event, “People love hockey in Latvia, this sport is developing well in this country. We could all see how the national team of Latvia played at the Olympics in Sochi and at the last Hockey Championship. The popularity of our school in Riga is growing with every year and this time we could not accept all who wished to attend, especially the senior group. Such schools could also be created in other cities of Latvia – there are all opportunities and conditions for it here.”

The Tretiak International School of Goaltending in Riga is used to train young professional hockey-players, including candidates for the junior national team of Russia, the best young goaltenders of Latvia, and also starting sportsmen from the age of 7-8. Every year young people from Japan and different regions of Russia arrive here. Among the students of the school, there are hockey-players from Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Germany and Spain.

“We are very pleased with our students, we like to train them. We have no lazy or indifferent goaltenders – all the guys who arrive to our school in Riga really want to play hockey. This year we had not only boys but also a very disciplined and girl with good potential,” says Vladislav Tretiak. “I think that for both the children and their parents sport classes pay off in all senses. This is the health and development of not only physical and mental capabilities, but also the prospect of an outstanding sports career for some. I am sincerely grateful to Rietumu Bank, the support of which means we can do this useful and necessary business.”

Member of the Council of Rietumu Bank Alexander Gafin congratulated Vladislav Tretiak with his re-election for the position of the President of the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia and the victory of the National Team of Russia at the World Hockey Championship. “We have been cooperating with Vladislav Tretiak for many years and can only be proud of it. During these years we have acquired a lot of friends who love hockey as much as we do. I hope that we will have more interesting joint undertakings and projects which will contribute to the development of sport both in Latvia and other countries.”

Vladislav Tretiak is an outstanding Russian hockey-player, goaltender, a state and political figure. From 1969 to 1984 he was a goalkeeper of the CSKA and the USSR national team. He has played at 482 hockey matches of the USSR Championships, 117 matches of World Championships and Olympic Games and 11 matches of the Canada Cup. The International Ice Hockey Federation has recognised Vladislav Tretiak to be one of the greatest hockey-players of the 20 th century. He was the first European named in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto in 1997.
