Nākotnes Atbalsta fonds (Future Supporting Fund), founded by Rietumu Bank, donated three oxygen therapy concentrators to Jurmala Hospital. Such devices are used to treat various respiratory diseases, including complications of Covid-19.
Nākotnes Atbalsta fonds provided Jurmala Hospital with three new EverFlo concentrators made by Philips Respironics (USA), as well as oxygen masks and other necessary accessories for using the devices.
Inga Shina, Chairperson of the Board of Nākotnes Atbalsta fonds, says: “We are always ready to support such an important area as medicine – our fund has already helped many hospitals, and I hope that cooperation with Jurmala Hospital will also continue. We would like to see the concentrators help patients not only during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, which, unfortunately, has not yet been overcome, but also later, in the treatment of other diseases.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all Latvian doctors and medical workers, who continue to fight the epidemic and give a lot of strength and energy to ensure that we, our relatives and loved ones, all residents of our country are healthy and able to enjoy life!”
Andris Voronins, medical equipment engineer at Jurmala Hospital, explains: “These oxygen concentrators will primarily be used in wards where there are no built-in gas sockets. This is particularly relevant in the current situation, when we expect an increase in patient flow and, accordingly, more equipped in-patient hospital care beds will be needed.”
Egons Liepins, Chairman of the Board of Jurmala Hospital, stresses: “We are grateful to the fund for this gesture. Any help to the medical sector is especially essential in the present circumstances. Moreover, it gives medical professionals that all-important feeling of support from the society!”
Oxygen concentrators have been
used in medical practice already for quite a long time and are essential
equipment for every hospital. They are used in the treatment of bronchial
asthma, pulmonary hypertension, heart failure and a number of other conditions.
The devices provide the patient with a higher concentration of oxygen than in
the ambient air.
Now, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for oxygen concentrators has increased drastically. The advantage of compact concentrators is that they can be used not only in hospital conditions, but also for treatment at home.
In December the largest international music festival in the Baltic Region, Riga Jurmala, which became a worthy successor to the tradition of music festivals held in Jurmala, announced its programme for this year.
